Statement of Commitment to the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples...
Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School acknowledges that God has been walking with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, making God's presence known through a continuous living culture over many thousands of years. We pray in thanksgiving for these ancient peoples who have enriched and sustained our continent over all that time. In particular, we praise God for the people who nurtured the lands where our schools are built and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families who continue to support Catholic schools.
As partners in Catholic Education and open to God’s presence, we pursue the fullness of life for all. Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School is committed to the safety and well-being of all students.
We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Victoria and pay respect to the ongoing living cultures of First Peoples. This newsletter comes to you from the lands of the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia, and Jupagalk Nations.

Andrew Chinn concert and new song
I hope you have all found time to watch your children’s concert, or re-watch it. It was certainly great entertainment and a special time for you all to keep. I have now attached the link for Andrew Chinn’s new song called ‘Mary’s song (God Has Been So Good To Me!) This is a beautiful song and, I hope, very special to you all too.
Dunmunkle Athletic Sports Day
The Dunmunkle Cluster School Athletics was held last Friday, 2nd June at Marnoo Recreation Reserve. Marnoo Primary School was the host school.
The students from Marnoo, Minyip, Rupanyup, Murtoa College and Our Lady Help of Christians, Murtoa, all competed in the events. The events were- running, hurdles, shot put, discus, triple jump and long jump.
The rain held off during the running of the events and it was a very successful day. It was a great day and all the children competed well for their schools. The scores, for the day, were: Marnoo – 45.6%, Rupanyup- 51.7%, Minyip and Murtoa College- 58.3%, OLHC- 65.4%. A special congratulations to our school, Our Lady Help of Christians, for winning the shield again, that’s 4 times in a row.
Royal Flying Doctor Education
On Thursday 8th June, 2023, the Royal Flying Doctors visited our school, OLHC, to run an education program.
For more than 10 years, RFDS Victoria has run an education program for primary schools across the state.
This program consisted of an exciting incursion, where the team brought a life-sized flight simulator into the school, and provided an engaging presentation alongside a hand-on learning experience.
The Education Program taught our students about the significant contribution the Royal Flying Doctor Service has made to Australia's history and educated them on the range of services the Flying Doctor provides to people living, working and traveling throughout Australia.
Dan Petro
Miss. Bedford and Mr. Collie will be attending a meeting in Ballarat facilitated by Mr. Dan Petro, next Friday, 16th June. Mrs. Eagle and Mrs. Schultz will be teaching the students.
The focus will be on engaging and re-energising positive behaviour management strategies for new staff and current teachers around the school priority of SWPBS. Participants will use an evidence-based, multi-tiered approach for preventing or responding to BOC’s, consistent within the SWPBS framework.
Presenter, Dan Petro is a Behaviour Analyst and director of Behavioural Resources Australia. He has worked in over 160 Australian schools and in CEO Ballarat, Sandhurst and Melbourne and with the Department of Education. Dan Petro has an academic background including degrees in both Behavioural Science and Counselling Psychology along with professional work at Universities in California. Dan has worked with both typical and special needs children. His workshops will help Miss Bedford and Mr. Collie to discover straightforward and effective teaching techniques that can make a significant difference for everyone.
Monday 12th June is a public holiday and I wish you all a lovely and restful day.
Wishing you all a great week.

Media Team News
Last week, on Friday was the school sports, it was held at the Marnoo Recreation Reserve and the competition approximately started at 10:00 A.M. All of the students tried their very best to try and win, and all that hard work paid off because our school won for the fourth time in a row! Eimer got a medal and certificate for getting the maximum points and Harriet broke the bean bag shot put record!
The day before the School Sports we had a little concert and Andrew Chinn came to our school to put it on with us. After the concert we did a little bit of green screen dancing and now we are on YouTube!
On Thursday, the Flying doctors came and had a chat with us about the history, and also the story behind the 20 dollar bank note. After we had an Auslan session with Buffy, we went outside and got to go inside the main body of the plane. The wings were cut off and it didn’t have a tail but it was still good through and through. Only 6 people were allowed to go onto the plane at 1 time. The back is where you get to use all of the equipment, the middle is where you get to use these special headphones so that you can communicate with each other but everything else is muffled, and the front is where you get to be a pilot and get to drive your own plane. If you weren’t on the plane you got to practice how to land a plane.

Parents are the first teachers of the faith to their children and are therefore encouraged to play an active part in helping their children prepare for the Sacraments.
This program will give parents, teachers, catechists, and children time to discuss, absorb, and appreciate the fundamental truths and gifts of each Sacrament offered to us from God, the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion will be encountered in the Year 4 (and above) age group.
