OLHC News Issue 11 Term 2 Week 1 - 28th April 2023
Statement of Commitment to the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples...
Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School acknowledges that God has been walking with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, making God's presence known through a continuous living culture over many thousands of years. We pray in thanksgiving for these ancient peoples who have enriched and sustained our continent over all that time. In particular, we praise God for the people who nurtured the lands where our schools are built and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families who continue to support Catholic schools.
As partners in Catholic Education and open to God’s presence, we pursue the fullness of life for all. Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School is committed to the safety and well-being of all students.
We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Victoria and pay respect to the ongoing living cultures of First Peoples. This newsletter comes to you from the lands of the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia, and Jupagalk Nations.
Principal Report
Dear Parents, carers, families, and parishioners,
Welcome back to term 2! This term is a shorter term only 9 weeks in total and the first week is already done and dusted as I write this report. It's hard to believe that in 8 weeks' time, our students and staff will be on holidays and the weather will most likely be colder.
Year 5/6 Camp - Anglesea
From Wednesday 17th May to Friday 19th May, the Year 5/6 students with Mr. Collie and Mrs. Maher will be attending Camp Wilkin in Anglesea. Please keep checking your PAM notifications for permission forms and as soon as we receive the explicit camp information we will send a copy home.
A.N.Z.A.C. Day Dawn Service
On the 25th of April, Sienna and Maeve, our School Captains, represented our school in remembering and honouring all who served our country and fought for freedom.
As we reflected on the occasion of ANZAC Day, we were reminded of the many great qualities of our service men and women displayed in the multitude of conflicts Australia has found itself embroiled in over the years. Courage, mateship, honesty, patriotism, faith, hope, and love. Each of these values act as a motivator, a reflection point, a challenge, and a reminder of all that is good in our lives and all that we should be thankful for. This motivation is shared as we try to live up to these wonderful values.
The school community has taken time to reflect on the sacrifices these men and women made to ensure our freedom, secure our way of life, and demonstrate what it means to sacrifice for others. For all of these things, we are eternally grateful.
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.
We will remember them,
Lest We Forget.
John 15:13 - 12
- This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13. Greater love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friends. 14. You are my friends if you do what I command you.…
Kind regards
Mrs. Cathy Grace

Dunmunkle Cross Country
The Annual Dunmunkle Schools Cross Country was held at Rabl Park in Murtoa on Thursday 27th April. Media Team News...
This week on Tuesday was Anzac Day, the 25th April is the national day of commemoration of Australia and New Zealand for victims of war and for recognition of the role of their armed forces.
It marks the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.
On Anzac Day we celebrated by remembering those who lost their lives fighting for our great nation. Maeve and Sienna attended the Murtoa Service. Miss Bedford made Anzac biscuits with the students and we learnt about why Anzac biscuits are important.
This week we only had three days of school because Tuesday was a public holiday for us and on Monday the Staff attended an Auslan PD in Ballarat.
On Thursday the senior class had Cross-Country. The 10 year olds had to run the 2km track (accompanied by the 9 year olds) and the 11 and 12 year olds had to run the 3km track. It was a challenge but all of our students pushed through and crossed the finish line. Maeve, Eimer and Charlotte all won medals because they won in first place. The Black Ranges Cross Country will be on next Thursday, 4th May 2023.
On Friday it was just a normal school day of learning plus the school assembly and raffle draws for the week.

Sacramental Program 2023
St Paul VI Parish
St Paul VI Parish is pleased to announce that over the course of 2023, children will be able to again choose to progress in being part of the Sacramental life of the Catholic Church. The Parish will offer a new program of preparation to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation. Parents are the first teachers of the faith to their children and are therefore encouraged to play an active part in helping their child prepare for the Sacraments.
To give parents, teachers, catechists and children time to discuss, absorb, and appreciate the fundamental truths and gifts of each Sacrament offered to us from God, the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion will be encountered in the Year 4 (and above) age group. Then, in the Years 6 & 7 age groups (primary & secondary) the Sacrament ‘confirming’ our place in faith (Confirmation) will be offered. This time line allows better opportunity for families to make the faith journey across these important Sacraments.
Preparation sessions begin soon for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Registration forms for the Sacramental Programs are available at the Parish Office, as well as the front office of all Catholic schools within the Parish. Forms will also be available at each Information Session. Please return your completed form to your local school, the Parish office, or Parish Clergy by 3rd April 2023.
