OLHC News Issue 12 Term 2 Week 1 2022
Principal Report
Dear Parents, Friends, and Carers,
Welcome back to Term 2. It’s been wonderful to see our students refreshed and ready for learning. We have all had an amazing start to the term.
This term, two student teachers have been organized to complete their teaching placement as part of their teaching degree. Mr. Schier comes from Deakin University and Ms. Hird comes from Australian Catholic University (ACU). Mr. Schier will be placed in the Senior Class and Ms. Hird will be placed in the Junior Class. We are all looking forward to learning with and from these student teachers. When they commence their placement we will formally introduce them to you all.
Efforts of Being Good Samaritans to help Ukrainians
The conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate with many refugees fleeing the country to escape the violent attacks by Russian troops. People around the world are saddened and devastated by the events that are unfolding. Both adults and young people are feeling the stresses of war from afar as they experience fear, frustration, and helplessness.
Our school community decided to take action by producing prayer packs. These packs were our way of reaching out as a united group and praying for Ukrainians, their safety, and their families.
These prayer packs were placed in local stores in Murtoa and Rupanyup and have raised approximately $140 which will help support others in a time of great need.
Over 5.2 million people have fled Ukraine, and another 7.7 million are displaced in the country. We will send the money to Caritas as our donation. This will help Caritas staff on the ground to provide families with emergency food, water, shelter, and hygiene support.
We would like to thank the Murtoa, Rupanyup, and surrounding districts for their support in our Ukrainian Project. If you would like to give to this very important cause please click on the link below:

Until next week.
Kind regards

ANZAC DAY
At 7 am on Monday 25th April, our school leaders and staff took part in the ANZAC day dawn service at Murtoa. Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served". It was great to see the number of people there showing their respect to our ANZACs.
A prayer for ANZAC Day:
God of love and liberty, we bring our thanks this day for the peace and security we enjoy, which was won for us through the courage and devotion of those who gave their lives in a time of war.
We pray that their labour and sacrifice may not be in vain, but that their spirit may live on in us and in generations to come. That the liberty, truth, and justice which they sought to preserve may be seen and known in all the nations upon earth. This we pray in the name of the one who gave his life for the sake of the world, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Dunmunkle Cross Country
Dunmunkle Cross Country was held at Rabl Park yesterday, Thursday 28th April. Students turning 9/10, 11, and 12 by 31st December 2022, were eligible to run.
Students from Minyip, Murtoa College, OLHC, and Rupanyup competed. 9/10-year-old boys and girls ran 2 kilometres with 11 and 12-year-old boys and girls running 3 kilometres. Students in each age group placed first and second will be given the opportunity of competing in the Black Ranges Cross Country., which will be held next Friday, 6th May 2022 at St. Arnaud.
Our Lady’s organized the Cross Country and I'd like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Nav, Carling, and Rosalyn for helping with the marshaling today. Also special thank you to Mrs. Bush for the organisation of the event at the end of Term 1. Thank you to the other Dunmunkle schools for supporting this event to make it a success.
Our students represented our school well. Every competitor completed the cross-country and did their best. Congratulations to Maeve, Eimer, Charlotte and Navraj who will compete in the next level cross country called 'Black Ranges' Cross Country at St Arnaud next Friday. Information and permission forms will be sent via SIMON to these students early next week.
NCCD....National Consistent Collection of Data
Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992This link will open in a new window (DDA) and the Disability Standards for Education 2005This link will open in a new window (the Standards), Australian students with disability must be able to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers. To ensure this, students with disability may receive adjustments to access education, based on the professional judgement of teachers, in consultation with the student and/or their parents, guardians or carers.
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) gives Australian schools, parents, guardians and carers, education authorities and the community information about the number of students with disability in schools and the adjustments they receive. The Australian Education Regulation 2013 requires all schools to report the data collected for the NCCD to the Australian Government on an annual basis.
Please see the NCCD sheet for parents below for further information.

Free SchoolTV - Happiness & Gratitude
“Happiness is not the result of bouncing from one joy to the next; achieving happiness typically involves times of considerable discomfort. It’s more than simply a positive mood, it’s a state of wellbeing that encompasses living a good life.” Dr Michael Carr-Gregg
Happiness is defined as the balance of positive and negative emotions, combined with overall life satisfaction. Happiness and gratitude have been studied in positive psychology for many years and researchers have found that gratitude is always strongly associated with greater happiness. Although everyone has their own definition of happiness, many of us want to feel more positive emotions than negative ones. However, negative emotions are still important. They have a lot to teach us and alert us when things need to change. Practicing gratitude helps people feel more of the positive emotions, enables us to relish good experiences, improve our overall health, deal with adversity and build strong relationships.

Term 2 COVID-19 information
There are some important changes to COVIDSafe measures for schools that will apply from the start of Term 2.
Face masks
From 11:59 pm Friday 22 April, face masks, while recommended, are not required in any school setting. This means students in grades 3 to 6, staff and visitors in primary schools are no longer required to wear face masks. Any student or staff member who wishes to wear a mask may do so, including those who are medically at-risk.
Rapid antigen test screening requirements
Students who have tested positive for COVID-19, and have completed their 7-day isolation period, now do not need to undertake rapid antigen test (RAT) screening for 12 weeks after their release from isolation. This was previously 8 weeks.
Household contacts
Students who are household contacts of a COVID-19 case are not required to quarantine. They may return to school as long as they undertake rapid antigen tests (RAT) 5 times during their 7-day period. They are required to notify the school that they are a household contact.
Students aged 8 years and above who are household contacts are required to wear face masks when indoors at school unless they have a valid exemption.
If a student household contact returns a positive RAT result, they must isolate for 7 days.
Vaccination requirements for visitors to schools
Parents, carers and other adult visitors (not performing work) are no longer required to show evidence of two doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
RAT screening program reminder
RATs will continue to be supplied for the first 4 weeks of Term 2 to support the early detection of COVID-19 in our school.
The testing recommendations will remain the same this Term for students and staff with:
- mainstream schools – recommended to test at home twice a week
- specialist schools – recommended to test 5 days a week at home due to the higher risk of severe illness for medically vulnerable children.
As we approach winter and flu season, the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 and booster shots for students 16+ remains the best way to ensure protection for students and staff.
If you have any concerns about getting your child vaccinated, please get in contact with your GP or another health professional who can answer your questions.
Thank you for your ongoing support in keeping our school safe.
