Dunmunkle Athletic Sports
Our Lady's back-to-back winners at Dunmunkle Athletic Sports!
After many weeks of running laps around the school and practicing shot put, discus, long jump, triple jump, and relays, Dunmunkle Athletic Sports arrived. Last Friday, 1st April at Murtoa Recreation Reserve, Our Lady's students were ready and raring to compete for the Ken Daggett shield.
The children did their best with fierce determination, demonstrating good sportsmanship with their fellow competitors. Competing against students from Minyip P.S., Rupanyup P.S, Marnoo P.S and Murtoa College. It was great to see our parents, families and friends also present, supporting the children in their sporting endeavors.
We need to acknowledge our Parent & Friends who ran the canteen this year. Thank you to all parents for your time and effort running the canteen and serving those delicious hot dogs and pies.
All our children were amazing when competing and did so with heart and enthusiasm. Two children were awarded prizes on the day for their outstanding efforts which were presented by Emma Kealy. Navraj Dhillon was awarded the 17-point certificate and Eimer Delahunty received the 18-point medallion and certificate.
Due to the childrens’ outstanding athletic efforts, our school was awarded the Ken Daggett shield by Gayle Daggett-Emmett who presented the shield to our school leaders, Chloe and Navraj.
Also a big thank you to Gayle Daggett-Emmett and Emma Kealy for attending the Sports Day and presenting the shields, certificates and medallions. The children and their families were excited and pleased by their attendance.

Free Parent Session - TRP (The Resilience Project)
I'm not sure how many of you managed to register for the free parent/carer TRP session with the Co-Founder: Hugh van Cuylenburg. For those that managed to register and join the session, we hope you enjoyed last night's presentation with Hugh.
Below is the link to the recording of the session, which you can click on to listen, learn and enjoy at a time that suits you. The Topic of the session was 'Discovering Resilience'.
Please note, that this link will expire at midnight on the 21st of April.
The mental health statistics in this country are confronting. Our mission is to teach positive mental health strategies to help people become happier and more resilient.
Hugh shares emotionally engaging stories with hundreds of schools, workplaces, and communities to help make the topic of mental health more accessible. The research is clear; the more positive emotion you experience, the more resilient you will be. For that reason, we focus on three key pillars proven to cultivate positive emotion; Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness (GEM).
The Resilience programs also have a strong focus on Connection, Purpose, Kindness, Emotional Literacy, and Physical Health. Students at Our Lady's PS, continue to participate in TRP sessions at school. We encourage you to read the ideas below and make TRP a priority at home, after all we are on this resilience learning journey together.
TRP@Home ideas: (please click on the highlighted link for more TRP ideas for home.
Gratitude - Paying attention to the things that we have right now, and not worrying about what we don’t have. We practise this by noticing the positives that exist around us.
Empathy - Putting ourselves in the shoes of others to feel and see what they do. We practice this through being kind and compassionate towards other people.
Mindfulness - Our ability to be calm and present at any given moment. We practice this by slowing down and concentrating on one thing at a time.
Easter Blessing: May I Always Find My Satisfaction in You...
Dear Lord, may I realize afresh today what Your death and resurrection mean for me.
Forgiveness, freedom, and the ability to walk with You through this fallen world into eternity.
May I always find my satisfaction in You and Your willingness to offer Yourself to me? In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Children's Easter Prayer
God made you and God made me,
He made the world for us to see.
God loves you and long ago,
He sent his Son to tell us so.
Jesus showed us many things,
To love and share and dance and sing.
To learn and pray, to help and care,
He promised he'd always be there.
He died but then came back to life,
Let's celebrate for he's alive in us today!
Amen.
HOLY WEEK
Many Christians, who are people who believe and follow the truth of Jesus Christ as the Self-Revelation of God for humanity, are preparing to mark the spiritual journey of ‘Holy Week’. This Sunday is Passion (or ‘Palm’) Sunday, honouring the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem as he faced his ultimate rejection, crucifixion and death (from us) and his ultimate victory of Resurrection (for us) ~ which is offered in Divine love to all. That offer is spoken beautifully to us in the Gospel life of Jesus. (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John)
Holy Week marks those events which took place in and around Jerusalem – and in eternity.
Holy Week prayers and gatherings of Christ’s faithful are to remind us that every week is truly a holy week – in God’s loving and healing presence with those who ‘live justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with their God.’
Holy Week reminds us that our Creator is concerned for the pain, trials, grief, rejection, loss and sorrows shouldered by good people, every week. (The ‘way’ of the Cross.)
But Holy Week also reminds us of the infinite Love that can overcome every failing or evil caused by the human soul when it has fractured, severed or ignored the call to a ‘holy communion’ with God – who is our source of life and love.
Holy Week reassures the faithful soul that Jesus is our ‘Wounded Healer’.
His love raises us out of the ‘deaths’ we inflict upon ourselves and others – if we recognise the Promise of the Empty Tomb.
Every week is Holy Week …….’read all about it!’
(In Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.)

(Week beginning Monday 11th April)
As we enter Holy Week, we continue to reflect on the lives of people vulnerable to extreme poverty and injustice and how we can respond through supporting Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion appeal.
Your generosity is the pebble that allows Caritas Australia to create the ripples that will improve the livelihoods of vulnerable communities, supporting them to flourish and create opportunities for future generations to live to their full potential and thrive.
Thank you!
Please return all Project Compassion boxes and envelopes to the school office by Friday 27th May or donate online via the Caritas website at lent.caritas.org.au

Senior RE - Ukrainian prayer packs
Despite the peacekeeping attempts, the conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate with many refugees fleeing the country to escape the violent attacks by Russian troops. People around the world are saddened and devastated by the events that are unfolding. Both adults and young people are feeling the stresses of war from afar as they experience fear, frustration, and helplessness.
Our school community has decided to take action by producing prayer packs. These packs are our way of reaching out as a united group and praying for Ukrainians, their safety, and their families.
Please purchase our prayer packs for the people of Ukraine (Gold coin donation). You will see these packs at various locations in Murtoa and Rupanyup stores.
By buying our Ukrainian prayer pack you are helping us support others in a time of great need.
Please take time to stop and join us as we pray, for peace for the Ukrainian people and our world.
With many thanks.
The children and staff from Our Lady Help of Christians.
How do making prayer packs for Ukraine help us to show we are ‘good Samaritans’?
Student responses:
- Helping people even if they are strangers or even if you don’t like them makes me feel good. Ukraine needs money to live and we feel sorry for them.
- The money we send them from the prayer packs will help them survive.
- It helps Ukraine families to survive with the money we give them so they can buy food or blankets or something.
- It shows respect for the Russia and Ukraine war. It also makes them happy and makes me feel good to help someone.
- This shows that we are respectful and thoughtful and thinking about what they are going through at these times.
- Because we feel sorry for them so when we get the money we can give it to the people. They will use the money for all the people who have lost their homes and supplies.
- It shows mercy because we are giving money to Ukraine that needs money to buy food and other things to survive.
- It shows compassion and shows we care for them even though we don’t know them.
